Gabe McFarland
Gabe McFarland has lived in Colorado for over 35 years and has litigated cases in state and federal courts since 1995. For many years, he has been named to Colorado’s “Super Lawyers,” which recognizes the top five percent of attorneys in the state. He brings a broad range of legal experience to the Berthoud office, along with small-town values and a passion for estate planning.
Gabe was born to a large family in Michigan and moved to Colorado at age 12 after his father fell in love with the state. He was raised to value hard work and kindness, which has shaped his approach to law and life. Gabe is dedicated to creating long-term relationships with his clients and committed to helping hard-working people transfer what they’ve earned to their loved ones, on their terms.
Gabe graduated magna cum laude from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1992. In 1995, he graduated from the University of Denver College of Law, where he served as editor of the Transportation Law Journal and spent two years as a teaching assistant.
In 2003, Gabe founded Evans & McFarland, where he continues to manage an active litigation practice. Previously, he was a partner at Bieging, Shapiro, & Burrus, LLP. Before that, he worked for The Beatty Law Firm, P.C., and was responsible for three multi-million dollar patent infringement lawsuits and for environmental and toxic tort litigation throughout the country. For six years, Gabe was associated with the international law firm of McKenna & Cuneo, LLP, where he managed all phases of a sophisticated commercial litigation practice.
When not working, Gabe enjoys hiking, biking, fishing, and spending time in Colorado’s backcountry with his wife and three kids. He is also is an avid longboard surfer.
Kim Schmad
Kim Schmad is a Colorado native who grew up in Niwot. In 1993, she moved to Berthoud, where she and her husband raised two children. Since 2007, Kim has created a warm and personable atmosphere in our office. She loves to visit with our clients and has met many wonderful and inspiring people through her work. In her spare time, Kim enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering in the community, playing board games, and having fun in the great outdoors.
